Thailand welcomes its first ever Digital Park

News of a Digital Park will ensure that Thailand keeps up with digital aspirations.  

Thailand is to welcome its first ever Digital Park. It is strategically located in the Chonburi Province within the Sri Racha district of Chonburi Province. The creation of which will signify a new era in the way that business is conducted in Thailand. Plus it also located within the special economic zone of the Eastern Economic Corridor. Ideal to maximise its potential.

With a strong emphasis on using smart technology, this Digital Park will enable entrepreneurs and start-ups to intermingle for networking opportunities. The brainchild of CAT Telecom the park will span 100 hectares. It will take between 10 and 15 years to fully develop.

The leading Thai Telco Company has appointed real estate firm Savills. This is alongside local engineering consultants, TEAM Group and International Master Planners, Broadway Malyan in order to conceptualise and plan Thailand’s first Digital Park. 

John Timms, regional director of development management at Savills said, “The timing of the Digital Park presents a huge opportunity for the nation to catch the wave of growth stimulated by the global tech boom, especially the Internet of Everything and Big Data. For this project to be a success, it is essential we meet the ambitions of Thailand 4.0, leverage the enhanced regulations and incentives of the EEC, and mesh with the national and regional upgrading of IT infrastructure”.

The purpose of the Digital Park is to create an environment for a digital ecosystem to excel. A central park will be built surrounded by a retail and lifestyle hub plus there will be residential too. Science and educational facilities will be sit alongside digital industries. Its aim is to also support the industries that already exist in the area. These include agriculture, manufacturing and automotive. 

“There are many challenges and many new layers of complexity to the development model in a development with such huge aspirations”, commented Peter Adam, director of development management at Savills. “Nonetheless, this scheme will offer an exciting opportunity to create a vibrant world-class environment for end-users, entrepreneurs, corporate occupiers, investors and partners across the region and country”.
