6 reasons why we love Scandinavian interiors

Bring some Scandinavian flair to your home with these top tips.

Scandinavians are known worldwide for their design. Impeccable in nature many of us want to have this style within our homes. But what makes it so much loved and how can we emulate this look at home?

1. Less is more.

The crux of Scandinavian interiors is minimalism. Not necessarily completely bare, but clear lines and less clutter than say a vintage or country home look. Therefore there are less items for you to invest in to perfect the look and sometimes you may find you can achieve this by removing some pieces you have rather than adding them.

2. Effortless and sophisticated.

The overall look flows into one another and oozes sophistication. It is not about trying to get two patterns to match but rather pick a block colour and then one pattern of a few colours with straight lines. Think chevrons, stripes or squares rather than flowers and patterns than lack symmetry. Choose a sofa in one colour and then accessorise with the print.

3. Accessible.

Traditionally Scandinavian design is expensive. But thanks to the likes of Ikea, this is no longer the case. Consequently this look has become more popular over recent years with many other big brands producing designs of these qualities making them much more affordable and accessible. Have a look through the well known brands for inspiration and then shop on the high street to achieve this.

4. Colours.

Muted colours are common especially on big areas like walls, but with hints and splashes to brighten the space up. The colour palette need not be boring and it means that you can introduce your favourite bold colour here and there with just a throw, cushion or rug. This also suits those we are less brave to take on a range of colours in their home.

5. All about the finish.

If you like things to be just so and have an immense eye for detail, then Scandinavian design is for you. The finish has to be spot on so it pays to employ the services of professional contractor. Remember the finish applies as much to your walls as it does to your furniture.

6. Timeless.

The overall look you want to achieve is something that is timeless. It is worth investing in some pieces of furniture that will complete the look, such as a feature mirror, a freestanding lamp or even rug. You will also easily be able to take these with you when you move too.
