4 tips for compact living

Make the most of your small and compact condominium with this helpful guide.

Bangkok’s condominiums are getting smaller and smaller in terms of space. A result of a combination of factors. Escalating land prices. Plus the changing demographic of tenants and property owners. More young professionals are seeking their own base in town rather than living with their parents until they marry. In addition there are more other professionals wanting a pied-à-terre to avoid weekday commuting. Thus there is an increased drive for smaller units to fit smaller budgets. So if you find yourself living in a small space, then make sure that you use it efficiently.

1. Use the outside space.

Regardless of the size of your balcony or terrace use it. If you have room for a lounge chair or table and chairs, use this space as an extra room for your home. Check out our online blog for inspiration on how to achieve this. If you are lacking storage space in your condominium why not move your washing machine here (plumbing permitted) so that you have space to store your suitcase or just to add a hanging rail if you have more clothes than hanging space.

2. Double up your dishwasher.

If you are desperate for a dishwasher but a full size one would use up too much space, get a counter top one. They are compact and also can be used as the place to store your dishes once they are clean freeing up another cupboard in your kitchen.

3. Go minimal.

Cluttering a small space will make it look and feel even smaller. Therefore it is important to keep on top of storage solutions. But even if this is just your weekday home don’t go too bare and avoid having any personal items. Hang a picture or add some photos of your family and friends to inject some personality and make it feel welcoming.

4. Built in storage.

Fitted storage will create a clean look and provide ample space to store all your belongings. As many new condominiums try and counteract the small floor space with high ceilings it is worth getting storage that fits from the floor to the ceiling to utilise the dead space above your head. It will also be an improvement to your home to add value to it too.
