4 of this year’s tile trends

Take your pick of one of these exciting 2017 tile trends for your home.

Are you bored of the look of your bathroom or kitchen? If so but you aren’t prepared for a complete overhaul than changing your tiles is a cheats way to achieving a whole new look. Gone are the days of plain tiles. The interior’s industry is awash with lots of exciting different styles, colours and layouts to suit your taste.

(For other ideas on how to change the look of your kitchen check out our online blog here).

1. Pick a patterned tile.

Tiles that are adorned with patterns are often reminiscent of the Mediterranean. They bring brightness to a room and create softness especially in a kitchen where there are lots of straight lines. Don’t overdo the patterned look though as it will create a very different look. Just opt for one wall or space for a real impact.

2. Opt for an exciting layout.

Tiles used to be either applied in a horizontal or vertical fashion. However this has all changed particularly with the popularity of a brick style tile that is very fashionable at present. However take this one step further and opt to have your tiles in a herringbone layout. The beauty of this is that you can really jazz up a cheaper plain tile without having to splash out on an expensive one.

3. Go coloured.

As mentioned, brick tiles are very popular at the moment. White with grey grouting even moreso. However to make sure your home doesn’t look like everyone else’s opt for a brick tile in a bright colour. Canary yellow or a deep turquoise. Anything goes but if you are going bold it is wise to stick with one colour and to pick a grout a similar colour to the tile.

4. Choose a shaped tiles.

If you aren’t feeling brave enough for a pattern or bold colour then similar to picking a different layout for a simple tile, why not choose a tile that has an interesting shape such as a hexagon? That way you can play it safe with the colour, particularly wise if you are worried about the tiles matching the rest of your room, but the excitement will be drawn to the shape of the tile instead. Remember it is important to emphasise the shape of the tile to pick a contrasting colour for the grout otherwise the shape will get lost.
