4 Bangkok activities for children in rainy season

Keep your children amused this rainy season with one of these Bangkok based activities.

Rainy season has well and truly arrived over the last few days. Perfectly timed as we approach September which is typically the wettest month of the year for Thailand. The sudden downpours can make planning your day ahead challenging especially with children in tow. However there are plenty of ways to make the most of this cooler season. If you are stuck on how to entertain your little ones then consider one of the following Bangkok attractions that are undercover for enjoyment whatever the weather.

1. Children’s Museum, Chatuchak.

This gem is situated just next to Chatuchak weekend market and a short walk from Mo Chit BTS station. Free to enter and open all week except Monday, the Children’s Museum has endless activities for a range of ages. There is a dedicated baby’s room with soft flooring and plenty of toys to keep them amused. A role play room for children over the age of two where they can pretend to be a firefighter, news presenter, shop keeper, mechanic or traffic warden to name just a few. Additionally in the main building there is a chance to build your own city, construct a giant Lego building or unearth a dinosaur skeleton. And when the sun comes out there is an expanse of outdoor play area to enjoy and water play area too.

2. National Science Museum, Silom.

Open Tuesday to Sunday and tucked away in Chamchuri Square is the National Science Museum. Due to its unlikely location not many people know about this educational filled museum that is also free to enter. There is a host of hands on activities for children to immerse themselves in based around science such as physical forces, space, biology and magnetism. Plus there is a safe area for children to play with toys and constantly changing exhibitions geared towards children and adults.

3. Indoor play areas.

Bangkok is awash with indoor play areas. Depending on your location you can pick from the newly opened Monkey and Me Cafe in Sathorn or Funarium at K Village. The latter which can easily occupy a whole day with its mammoth indoor climbing area, scooter track, baby area plus an extensive food menu for parents to enjoy. Molly Fantasy’s at Gateway Ekamai or Mega Bangna is another popular choice. They have an extensive role play set-ups including shops and restaurants, plus giant trampolines and ball pits for your children to exhaust themselves in. Bangkok’s latest play area is on the top floor of Central Embassy shopping mall. Open House is dubbed as a co-living space but for children there is a small supervised play area to keep them occupied whilst you enjoy a coffee or meal at one of the food outlets closeby.

4. Head out for lunch.

There are increasing numbers of restaurants and cafes in Bangkok that aim to serve families. Brainwake Cafe on Sukhumvit soi 33 is very child friendly. Alongside their tasty menu there is also a corner filled with books, toys and a play kitchen for your little ones to enjoy. Blue Parrot in Sathorn although outside does have an undercover area. With craft beers on tap, a swimming pool, dedicated children’s menu to be enjoyed at the mini picnic benches, cabanas, and giant chalkboard, there is enough to keep both parents and children happy alike.
