The new chairman of Thailand’s Government Housing Bank (GHB) has pledged to continue with the bank’s top-priority measures to help wage earners buy a house.

GHB Chairman Surachai Danaitangtrakul said his bank will be urgently implementing the four schemes: the THB 10 billion soft loans to low- and medium-income earners, the Ban Pracharat housing project, promotion of the e-payment system and the launch of clinics to educate house seekers.

Surachai said the bank had so far received requests for soft loans amounting to THB 15 billion, and had granted THB 5.2 billion to more than 3,600 borrowers. Consideration of the remaining applications should be concluded before the end of December.

He disclosed GHB would ask its board to approve another THB 10 billion in soft loans after the original quota had been used.

Regarding the Ban Pracharat housing project, GHB will seek cooperation from the National Housing Authority and property developers to facilitate the launch of low-interest credit to enable wage earners to own a house.

Meanwhile, GHB will promote the development of e-payment systems so that its customers can pay their debts more conveniently. The bank will also set up housing clinics where prospective house buyers can obtain knowledge on the process of buying a house from industry experts.
