Temasek Maintains Confidence in Thailand

Temasek HoldingsTemasek, Singapore’s investment arm, has expressed that it remains confident in the Thai economy for its long-term investment opportunities, despite the ongoing political crisis. Stephen Forshaw, Temasek’s managing director for strategic and public affairs, recently told The Nation that, “The situation in Thailand is obviously complex but what we think about Thailand is that there is a large population and the country is mixed with a large number of investment. The regulatory political cycle needs some time to resolve [itself].”

Forshaw also explained that Temasek has been seeking long-term investments in this region, mainly driven by urbanisation and demand from a growing middle class for housing, consumer goods, infrastructure and healthcare. Additionally, Temasek focuses on key high-value sectors such as banking and financial services, telecommunications, media and technology, and transport and industrials. The organisation is also keen on new developments in life sciences, consumer products, real estate and energy resources.
