State land for low-income houses

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has said it will allocate plots of land for the construction of houses for low-income earners on the northern outskirts of Bangkok.

SRT Governor Wutthichart Kalyanamitra said the rail agency will allocate its property to meet the Thailand Government’s housing projects for the poor, who need to have a house of their own.

For that matter, private firms will be allowed to build houses on the land owned by the SRT or other state property and sell them without commercial profits to the low-income earners.

The SRT currently has more than 200,000 rai of land, including in Chiang Rak Noi area on the northern outskirts of Bangkok, which will be allocated for such housing projects.

The matter is set to be finalised next week although no details have been released about the cost of these houses and who will be charged with constructing them.
