In search of the picture perfect

Issue 13 | Feature brought to you by Sugar Villa

Kamala is arguably one of Phuket’s most attractive and underrated areas. Home to some of the trendiest restaurants and bars, it boasts one of the island’s most pristine beaches, as well as having easy access to the tourist resorts to the south, and amenities including the international airport and international schools to the north.

It is a place that many people will pass through but anyone taking the time to stop to spend a few hours in Kamala will instantly be enchanted. This is why Maria Doroshenko and her team decided, after careful consideration, that Kamala is the ideal location for Sugar Villas.

Doroshenko is one of Phuket’s long term residents who first lived on the south of the island and then the north, but found if she wanted to visit a new place or go shopping she would need to spend an hour travelling. Kamala is a however a completely different story.

“For two years I couldn’t find a perfect place for our project. But when I saw this beautiful, colourful piece of nature surrounded by green hills and little rivers with the smooth skyline meeting the blue waters of Andaman Sea at the horizon… I had no doubts. I knew immediately that this was it, the place that made for Sugar”.

Having personally selected the location after scouring the island for suitable spots, Doroshenko’s involvement has not stopped here. She is keeping a watchful eye on Sugar’s day-to-day development as the company office is onsite. The build is happening right in front of her eyes allowing her to monitor every step of the building’s development.

Some of Phuket’s most reputable organisations have worked on Sugar. Doroshenko knows the Phuket property industry inside out, and recognises the importance of having a team of experienced professionals involved in every aspect of the project,

“The main thing that makes our project successful is our team of professionals behind it, the architects, engineers, builders and designers. The architectural and building work was by Creation Studio, a team of young, inspired professionals who have been involved in many projects, and are passionate about their work. For other areas that require niche skills, we Feature 13 In search of the pictureperfect at Sugar Villas Phuket have brought in the best people in the business. The kitchens and wardrobes are by Zeyco, the solar systems by Phuket Solar, the Furniture from Absolutely Fabulous in Indonesia, and the bathroom fittings and accessories are from Cotto”.

Sugar Villas have also been constructed with sustainability and longevity in mind. Doroshenko says her team are committed towards offering affordable energy to her homeowners on an indefinite basis. It is one of the first projects in Phuket to introduce solar systems to save owners money. Reducing energy cost expenditure by as much as 70 percent, the project is also environmentally friendly as natural products such as wood and mountain rock are incorporated into the interior design.

The Sugar complex consists of just six villas each with their own swimming pool, Jacuzzi, private garden and ocean view. Doroshenko forecasts that upon completion, their value will increase by 10 percent, with an average yearly increase of five percent, or more thereafter. Thus, owners at Sugar will experience at least a 15 percent increase in the value of their property in the next 12 months.

But Doroshenko believes that mere words alone do not do justice to the beauty of Sugar Villas. She urges people to come and see firsthand the quality of the construction, and the inherent natural beauty of the location.

“I love to watch people’s reactions when they first walk into the villa or come to see the build. Everyone gets excited about the quality of materials, design and the view. A view which makes you stop and understand again why people from all over the world choose to live in Phuket”.
