The story of Bangkok’s Mahanakhon building has taken as many twists and turns as its iconic façade over the years. A positive chapter appears to be starting with Sansiri opening The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, the brand’s flagship property, inside the legendary skyscraper.

“We are incredibly thrilled about the launch of The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon in Thailand. This iconic flagship hotel of The Standard represents an extraordinary phenomenon in the hospitality industry not only in Asia, but globally as well. We are confident that The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon will have huge success in delivering the ultimate hotel experience – unlike any other in Thailand,” Khun Srettha Thavisin, Sansiri President and Chief Executive and Chairman of Standard International.

The hotel will take advantage of the building’s unique architecture and energy as it brings the brand’s signature mix of culture, design, entertainment and hospitality to the Thai capital. The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon contains a total of 155 rooms and suites along with a range of amenities, six food and beverage spaces and meeting venues that have been created to break the mold.

The hotel was originally planned to be an Edition property, but those plans fell through a few years ago. So too did arrangements with Accor to turn the space into the world’s first Orient Express hotel. Ultimately, Sansiri stepped up with its The Standard brand which has skyrocketed since the Thai developer initially invested into the company in 2017.

In December 2021, The Standard, Hua Hin opened its doors to guests. This was the first The Standard property to open in Thailand and part of an ambitious expansion plan with new hotels in Lisbon, Milan, Melbourne, Singapore, Dublin and Brussels under development.
