PM: Economy is recovering

Thailand’s Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha (pictured) has said the Thai economy is recovering at a slow pace, despite export slowdown.

During his national televised address on the “Returning Happiness to the People” programme, General Prayut said the Royal Thai Government will seek to strengthen economic cooperation with other nations in the region and around the world.

He said unnecessary processes and regulations will be reduced in order to allow infrastructure development projects to be implemented as soon as possible. Some of the projects are expected take years to complete and will be passed on to the next administration, he noted.

According to the Premier, although the country has seen some unsatisfying numbers in the export industry, the Thai economy is starting to pick up gradually thanks to government spending on various projects which has generated more income such as creating jobs in the community.

As for the agricultural sector, the Prime Minister urged all agriculturists to emphasise on innovation, saying it could help to create added-value for their crops while enhancing the country’s ability to compete in the world market.
