Overseas interest declines

EXCLUSIVE: Thailand real estate and property was out of favour in the minds of European overseas buyers last month, judged by the monthly Top of the Props report by a U.K.-based overseas property website.

For only second time this year, Thailand dropped out of the top ten most-searched destinations during October 2015 on www.themovechannel.com. It had earlier risen as high as the fourth most-searched destination for overseas property buyers and investors earlier this year.

Clearly Thailand, its real estate agents and property developers need to do more to sell the Kingdom as a property investment destination to primarily British and European buyers ahead of the forthcoming traditional high season. It has done it before but other countries seem to be doing a better job currently.

Turkey and the United Arab Emirates benefited at Thailand’s expense last month, according to the website.

Elsewhere. The United States overtook Spain to reclaim the number one spot in the Top of the Props league. Spain has largely dominated the Top of the Props table in 2015, thanks to the country’s gradual recovery attracting more buyers, as well as the appeal of favourable exchange rates with the weak euro.

The USA, though, has also proven attractive, with markets such as Florida and Detroit already established among international investors.

Enquiries in real terms increased 14 percent during October 2015 month-on-month according to the website, taking the USA to the number one spot for only the fourth time this year. U.S. property accounted for 8.86 percent of all enquiries during October, up from 8.02 percent last month.

Spain, on the other hand, saw its share of enquiries slip from 9.33 percent to 7.78 percent. This was the first time that Spain was not ranked number one in five months. and only the fourth time this year.

Brazil also enjoyed a mini-boom in popularity, with its share of enquiries almost doubling during October. As Brazil rose one place into third, Portugal was hot on its heels, climbing back into the top five to seize fourth spot. France fell two places, but remained in the top five, with its share of enquiries edging down slightly from 4.93 percent to 4.11 percent.
