Approval for 2.7m low-cost homes

The Thailand cabinet has given the green light for a 10-year housing development plan that is aimed at providing 2.7 million homes for low-income earners in the Kingdom.

Government spokesperson Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said cabinet approval was granted for the 10-year housing development plan from now until 2025, which will help provide new homes for approximately 2.7 million impoverished families.

The plan is set to be implemented in parallel with the National Economic and Social Development Plan, and with the Government’s policy for its remaining 18 months in office.

During the meeting the cabinet insisted construction of housing can start immediately in places deemed fully ready, such as along the Ladphrao Canal and in the Din Daeng areas in Bangkok.

The project was placed under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon, and is expected to fully start by the end of this year.
