Crystal Lagoons’ sustainable innovations boosts tourism in Thailand.

Crystal Lagoons is influencing the tourism industry in Thailand. The company who are behind the man-made sustainable crystal clear lagoons, bring idyllic beaches to anywhere in the world. Thus increasing occupancy rates for hotels and resorts with their innovative design which is enjoyed by tourists.

Easy to maintain

Using the latest technology, Crystal Lagoons create a lagoon that can requires minimal maintenance. As Thailand continues to draw in tourist numbers, reaching over 32 million visitors in 2016 alone, the Kingdom needs to be ahead of the game to continue to entice tourists. Crystal Lagoons helps fill this gap by providing a unique attraction designed for visitors’ entertainment. Additionally they are not affected by the rainy season when some of the oceans around the country are not safe for swimming.

With its innovation and sustainable technology, crystal clear lagoons of unlimited sizes can be built and maintained at a very low cost using a minimal amount of chemicals and energy.  Crystal Lagoons’ technology uses just 50 percent of a standard park’s water usage. This translates to 30 times less water used by a golf course, while using only two percent of the energy required by traditional filtration system.

The lagoons can use any type of water whether it be salt, brackish or fresh water. Plus the amount of water consumed is very low as water is only lost through evaporation. The technology also allows refilling with rainwater. Crystal Lagoons uses 100 times less chemicals than conventional swimming pools and complies with drinkable quality standards. This means there are no concerns should anyone accidentally consume the water.

Strong presence in Southeast Asia

One of the most successful projects in Southeast Asia is the Treasure Bay in Bintan, Indonesia. Since the lagoon opened, tourism at the Bintan Island has soared by astounding 40 percent. The Canopi Resort, which is located next to the lagoon, has 100 percent occupancy rate over the weekend and over 50 percent during weekdays. This is 200 percent higher than other hotels on the island that have no access to crystal clear lagoons. Thanks to this dramatic increase in business and visitors’ demands, Canopi resort has decided to expand its luxurious safari themed tents from 40 to 100.

Jaime Rivera, Crystal Lagoons’ regional director for Southeast Asia, said, “We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the tourism industry in various countries around the world. We are able to achieve this due to our innovation and sustainable technology with low construction and maintenance costs, as well as sustainable water management in our lagoons”.

He goes on to say, “Crystal Lagoons has launched a new business model that allows developers and local governments to transform unused or existing public areas. This includes parks, stadiums, centres of horse race tracks, and speedways, to name a few, to a very attractive public access beach life for all citizens and tourists, generating not only wealth to the population, but also the rise in revenues for developers. In Thailand, we see great potential, and we currently have a range of projects under discussion”.

Other Crystal Lagoons projects from around the world include a large crystal clear lagoons on the iconic Las Vegas “Strip”, and an oasis in the middle of the desert in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt that was awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest man-made in the world.
