Checks for Bangkok condos

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has said it will be checking to ensure apartments and condominiums in the Thai capital comply with current laws.

BMA Permanent Secretary Sanya Cheenimit said the authority has empowered its officials in 50 districts across Bangkok to check whether the apartments under their jurisdiction are operating legally and abiding by safety and hygiene regulations.

Representatives from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, educational institutions, the Health Department and related agencies attended the meeting. Any apartments found to have violated the law are required to correct themselves before they can obtain a new license.

Mr. Sanya added the inspections are aimed at assuring the safety of tenants, and will be carried out frequently to check whether any progress has been made.
