The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is holding an exhibition this weekend featuring intricate and historic sculptures from Bangkok’s Rama V Bridge.
The exhibition of these decorative bridge sculptures is seen as a way of raising arts and cultural preservation awareness among the public.
The exhibition is being held at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center in Pathum Wan from now until Sunday, September 13.
The sculptures on show have historic links, as the sculptor was reportedly the same person who sculpted decorative sculptures in Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall.
Bangkok’s Rama V Bridge has been included in a project to preserve decorative sculptures on the bridges of the capital. The project is a joint effort by the BMA, Silpakorn University’s Painting Sculpture and Graphic Arts Faculty, Kasetsart University’s Engineering Faculty and members of the private sector.
The project first traced the origins of these sculptures, collected information in the form of digital data, and performed maintenance on the bridge sculptures before holding the current exhibition.
