Thailand regains top spot

EXCLUSIVE: Thailand has regained top spot as the most-searched Southeast Asian destination during March on a leading British-based overseas property website.

After losing top place to the Philippines during February, Thailand was ranked in 16th place with 0.64 percent of all searches for overseas property on TheMoveChannel.com in its monthly Top of the Props survey.

Searches for property in The Philippines dropped seven places in the rankings to 21st position and 0.46 percent of all searches on the website.

Elsewhere, the USA remained the top destination on the site last month, accounting for 13.45 percent of all enquiries. Australia continued to attract investors and expats alike, climbing nine places in the Top of the Props league to re-enter the Top 10 for the first time since August 2015.

Spain overtook Portugal once more to become the second most popular property destination in the world. Spanish property was responsible for 5.63 percent of total activity on the portal, up from 348 per cent in February. Portugal slipped into third place, accounting for 2.86 percent of the month’s activity.

“Britain may be debating a Brexit but buyers are still in love with European property,” said TheMoveChannel.com’s Director Dan Johnson.

“Despite the pound weakening against the euro in recent months, demand remains strong for the continent’s familiar holiday home hotspots, with Spain, Portugal, Italy and France all still in the Top 10 destinations.

‘Investors are increasingly turning to U.S. and Canadian property, as well as the resilient Turkish real estate market, but Spain in particular has rarely been more attractive, thanks to its combination of bottomed-out prices and gradually improving economy.
