4 ways to see in the New Year

Mark the end of 2017 with one of these way to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Thailand is known for its fun loving nature. Celebrating different festivals throughout the year from Songkran, Thai New Year in April, to the Hindu festival of Diwali. Despite the country following a different calendar there is still a huge appetite for New Year Eve’s celebrated on the 31 December marking the last day in the Gregorian calendar. An evening that is commemorated in all four corners of the globe with many counting down the seconds to midnight as 2018 nears.

This year the 1st and 2nd January are public holidays as New Year’s Eve falls over the weekend. Therefore if you are wondering how to make the most of this extended holiday then consider one of these options.

1. Hit the beach.

For beach lovers there is never an excuse to visit Thailand’s swathes of beaches. Being peak season prices tend to be high with many hotels booking up months in advance. Should this be the case then why not visit one of Thailand’s lesser known islands? The popular beach destinations of Phuket, Hua Hin and Koh Samui are going to receive vast visitor numbers so this could be the time to get off the beaten track.

2. Celebrate in Bangkok.

Thailand’s capital has a bit of a reputation for its lively nightlife. There is something for everyone depending on what you want and how much you are willing to spend. Some of the city’s rooftop bars of Sukhumvit or Sathon and Silom may charge entrance so it is best to plan ahead to not be disappointed. The popular backpacker haunt of Khao San Road will be guaranteed to be partying in style. Join a river cruise or simply find the best spot to enjoy the city’s fireworks. You can make it as relaxed or as heavy as you like.

3. Have a staycation.

As this is the most expensive time of the year to travel you could just opt for a staycation instead. Bangkok is home to countless hotels that are relatively affordable in comparison to other city’s in the region. There are some beautiful resort style hotels such as the Anantara and Shangri La situated along the river and even some unique hotels that offer something a little bit different. 4. Stay at home.

If you would rather avoid the crowds and prices that New Year brings, then see the New Year in at home. Whether this is with a few friends and family or with a big party. If the latter you could have a themed party or even countdown every New Year across the globe from London to Auckland with a celebration every hour!
