Better in 2016: KBank

An economist from KasikornBank (KBank) has forecast that the Thai economy will perform slightly better next year, as national reform is still being implemented.

The Head of KBank Capital Market Research Department, Kobsit Silpachai, said the Thailand economy has been predicted to grow 2.8 percent next year, and will grow more than 3 percent if all government’s economic stimulus measures are carried out successfully.

The export sector is also expected to grow from a contraction of 5 percent this year to flat growth the following year, as the Thai baht is likely to weaken to 38 baht versus the US dollar.

Kobsit added that the political situation still plays an important role in domestic investments. Investors tend to be reluctant to pursue any investment plan if they are unclear about the direction of Thai politics.
